Kentucky environmental attorney Sanders says Superfund sites on NPL just keep growing as EPA adds three more dumps from southeast U.S.

US EPA added three and proposed three new hazardous waste sites in the southeast that pose risks to human health and the environment to the National Priorities List (NPL) of Superfund sites. The NPL is a listing of priority sites that EPA investigates to determine if actions are needed to clean up the waste.

The sites added to the NPL are: (1) JJ Seifert Machine (Ruskin, Fla.), (2) Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp – Jacksonville (Jacksonville, Fla.), and (3) Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp – Navassa (Navassa, N.C).

The three sites proposed to be added to the NPL are: (1) Sanford Dry Cleaners (Sanford, Fla.), (2) The Wright Chemical Corporation (Riegelwood, N.C.), and (3) Smokey Mountain Smelters (Knox County, Tenn.)

There are now 1,279 sites on the NPL.  There are also 61 proposed sites awaiting final agency action. There are a total of 1,340 final and proposed sites.
