Kentucky environmental attorney Sanders salutes NKU’s Coach Steve Kruse’s high academic achievers’ national honors!

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association have honored Northern Kentucky University’s cross country programs for their efforts in the classroom.  NKU’s women finished among the nation’s top academic squads and earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 10th consecutive year. The Norse women boasted a team grade point average of 3.49 to attain the honor.

NKU runners Alisha Hansman, Janice Laker, Jerrica Maddox and Jenna Siemer each received All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA. Siemer earned the honor for the third time, while Laker received it for the second time.

It also marked the most NKU women’s runners to ever earn the recognition.

The NKU men placed runners Drew Harris and Joey Mueller on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. It was the third straight year Harris has earned the honor. Mueller became just the second freshman in NKU history to earn a spot on the team.  Drew Harris also received the recognition his freshman year.

Head Coach, Steve Kruse, just finished his 15th season as men’s and women’s cross country coach at Northern Kentucky University.  Coach Kruse has built NKU into a solid program, not just in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, but on the regional and national levels, as well.

Coach Kruse has sent his men’s team to the NCAA National Championships in each of the last two years, and in 2007, Julianne Hoekzema became the first woman in NKU history to compete at the NCAA nationals, as well as the first six-time All-GLVC performer (between cross country and track & field performances).
