Kentucky environmental attorney Sanders says EPA to hold public meeting on environmental justice in NOLA in January 2010.

The National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC), a U.S. EPA independent advisory group, will hold a public meeting in New Orleans Jan. 27-29 to discuss environmental justice issues. EPA Assistant Administrators Cynthia Giles and Mathy Stanislaus, along with other senior officials, will take part in an opening dialogue with NEJAC on Jan. 27.

Recently, EPA announced that it would assess the impacts of its hazardous waste rule on disadvantaged communities. This action will also be used to inform EPA’s ongoing effort to strengthen the consideration of environmental justice in rulemakings.
