Kentucky environmental attorney Sanders says China blocking rare-earth metal shipments to US and Japan.

China has begun blocking shipments of some rare-earth minerals to the United States that are crucial in the manufacture of a number of advanced products, The New York Times reported Wednesday.  The paper said Beijing also halted such shipments to Japan about a month ago. The decision to halt such shipments to the U.S. only raises the stakes in an already tense trade issue, analysts said.

China mines some 95 percent of the world’s rare earth elements, which have widespread commercial and military applications. Sounds like we need to begin a national effort to recycle rare earth metals already in the United States from discarded electronic equipment.  Calling Silicon Valley, HELP!
