Environmental attorney Sanders says this weekend is time to help clean up the Ohio River and Kentucky River.

Volunteers are needed for two massive cleanup efforts planned this weekend for both the Ohio and Kentucky rivers.  First, the 19th annual Kentucky River Clean Sweep is set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT, and volunteers will meet at Boonesborough State Park in Richmond. The Richmond Register reports some 125 volunteers are needed to pick up debris across some 18 miles of river.

Also Saturday, the annual Ohio River Sweep will take place in six states. The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission says each year more than 21,000 volunteers work to collect more than 20,000 tons of trash and other debris from the Ohio River and its tributaries.  The Kentucky Enquirer reports volunteers are needed in Kenton, Boone and Campbell counties.
