Kentucky environmental attorney Sanders says Senator Lautenberg takes aim at EPA’s lack of progress under TSCA to test 80,000 chemicals in products sold in USA.

Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works’ Subcommittee on Superfund, Toxics and Environmental Health held a hearing earlier this month entitled, “Current Science on Public Exposures to Toxic Chemicals.” According to Chairman Lautenberg,  TSCA fails to give EPA the tools it needs to protect against unsafe chemicals.

Senator Lautenberg said EPA has tested only 200 of the more than 80,000 chemicals in the products people use every day over the past three decades.  To counter this record of failed progress, Senator Lautenberg promised to introduce a bill that will overhaul our nation’s chemical laws, with the “simple goal” to force chemical makers to prove that their products are safe before they end up in a store or sold in the marketplace.

Seems like Senator Lautenberg has opined a sound principle to me.  Now, watch the hords of lobbyists attack the Senate and House with buckets of $$$$$ to defeat the good Senator’s sound measure.
