Kentucky environmental attorney Sanders says about 60% of petroleum products are still imported from foreign countries, some of which are hostile to the United States’ well being.

president-barack-h-obamaAlthough energy issues dominated the debate during the election, banking and economic issues have taken over the headlines. We cannot weaken our resolve to make our great country energy independent.  Indeed, forging ahead on finding alternative energy sources and reducing dependence on foreign oil imports to America is in everyone’s long-term best interest in this country.

Did you know that the top crude oil producing states are:

  • Texas
  • Alaska
  • California
  • Louisiana and
  • Oklahoma?

About 58 percent of the crude oil and petroleum products used in the United States comes from other countries. The world’s top five crude oil-producing countries are:

  • Saudi Arabia
  • Russia
  • United States
  • Iran
  • China

The United States of America burns about 21 million barrels (882 million gallons) of petroleum products each day, almost half in the form of gasoline.  Americans have more than 210 million motor vehicles and drive more than 7 billion miles per day.

We ignore the energy issues at our own peril. It is too important to ignore or forget.
