Lawyer Sanders says Governor Sarah Palin loses fight to list baby baluga whales on list of endangered species in Alaska.

Endangered species living in Alaska continue to get the best of Sarah Palin.  Baby baluga whales, a small, whitish whale were added to the federal endangered species list despite protests from Alaska Governor Sarah Palin that the listing is premature and unwarranted.  Governor Palin said the same about polar bears earlier in the year — but to no avail.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s fisheries service issued a press release supporting the government’s decision.  The link here for press releaseNOAA claims that the recovery of the Cook Inlet whales is potentially hindered by strandings, continued development within and along upper Cook Inlet, oil and gas exploration and production, and industrial activities that discharge or accidentally spill pollutants.

By listing the whales as endangered any federal agency that funds, authorizes, or carries out new projects or activities that may affect the whales in the area is forced to first consult with NOAA’s fisheries service.  Governor Palin should know better than to mess with baby baluga whales.  By the way, Ms. Palin is now 0 for 2 in 2008 on fighting the Endangered Species Listings in Alaska.
